SASSA Disability Grant 2024 | Criteria & Payments | How to Apply?
The SASSA Disability Grant program is only for those living in South Africa having either Physical or Mental disability. If you are unfit to work for six months and above, you can apply for SASSA Disability Grant.
If Your disability periods last more than six months or up to a year, you are eligible for this Grant. Remember that Permanent Grant does not means that you will receive the Grant for a lifetime Period.
Qualification Criteria for SASSA DISABILITY GRANT
If you are willing to receive this Grant, then you must have to fill in the following requirements full:
Your age must be between 18 to 59 Years
Must not be being provided care from a state institution
Applicant must be a citizen/ Resident of South Africa during the time of Application of Grant
Must have South African Identity and 13 Digit ID Number.
Their income should not be more than R86280 if Unmarried and R172560 if Married.
Their Assets should not be more than R1227600 if Unmarried and R2455200 if Married.
He must undergo an examination by a Doctor, who will judge the degree of his disability to be qualified for the Grant.
You must bring all your medical reports that will be annexed with your application.
Applicant must not be receiving any other grant
Requirements for means test must be completed.
Documents Required for Application
Following are the documents you must attach when applying for SASSA Disability Grant.
13-Digit Bar Coded Identity Document.
If You don’t have an identity document, then,
A complete Affidavit on Standard Benchmark SASSA Format in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths, who should not be the official of SASSA.
A Sworn statement signed by any reputable person who can verify your Name, Age, and Disability.
Your Finger Prints that must be taken by SASSA Individuals.
After all the process is completed, you will be referred to the Department of Home Affairs for ID. If you fail to get an ID, then your Grant will be suspended.
Proof of Marital status if married.
Proof of Resident.
Proof of your total income earned and dividend received, if any.
Proof of all your assets and valuation of your total municipal property.
Proof of any Pension received (either Public or private)
You will be required to submit a bank statement for the past 3 Months.
Your 13-digit refugee ID with refugee Permit status.
You will be required to submit UIF (Unemployment Insurance Fund) or your discharge certificate from the previous employer where you were employed.
You will be required to submit a copy of the will and the first, full, and final liquidation and distribution account if your husband/wife dead in the previous 5 Years.
One thing that you must keep in mind is that there are application charges for applying for SASSA Grant. It is totally free.
You will be required to submit all your documents to the SASSA Officer. Once you submit all your documents, you will be provided with the receipt that your documents have been accepted. Make sure to place your receipt in a safe place because you will have to present it to the officer when you will be eligible to receive the Grant.
SASSA Grant Approved/Disapprove Status
If your SASSA Application got rejected for a grant, then you will be provided with a valid reason for rejection from SASSA officers.
If you have any solid reason and you think that your application must be approved but got disapproved, unfortunately, then you have the right to Ask SASSA to Reconsider your application, either you can also appeal to the Minister of Social Development in writing, explaining your disagreement.
Your appeal will take time duration of a maximum of 90 days, and you will be informed of the outcome of your application.
Channels to Receive the Grant
Once your application gets approved for SASSA Disability Grant, then, you will be asked to choose the channel for the purpose of receiving the Grant. You can get the Grant by the following available methods:
Receive a grant at a specific pay point.
The Grant will be deposited in your bank account directly.
An institution not funded by the state.
You can choose any of the methods according to your feasibility. If you want to change the method, then you will have to contact the SASSA Office. The change will take approx. one month.
