Councilor Arrested for Withdrawing Money from SASSA Cards | SASSA Pension Fraud

A Councilor from the ANC (African National Congress) in Beaufort West got arrested for withdrawing money from SASSA cards.

He was caught at an ATM with multiple SASSA cards and an undisclosed amount of cash. This created a problem because it goes against the National Credit Act, which is a law that regulates credit and aims to protect consumers. The act prohibits the unauthorized use of SASSA cards and any form of fraudulent activity related to them.

SASSA cards are given to people who receive government grants. These grants are meant to help individuals who may need financial support. However, some corrupt officers in power misuse their authority.

“Now, the opposition parties, such as the DA (Democratic Alliance) and EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters), are appealing for the councilor to be removed from his position. They believe that someone who is involved in such illegal activities should not hold a position of power and influence”.

Local activists and community members have been aware of the councilor’s involvement in lending money at high-interest rates for some time now.

ANC stated that they would handle the matter internally and take appropriate action if necessary. However, the DA and EFF are keeping a close eye on the situation and urging for swift and decisive action to be taken.

SASSA Pension Fraudsters Arrested

Three suspects named Gugu Precious Magudulela, Lindiwe Gladys Thango, and Thabane Blessing Mbhele got arrested for cheating SASSA Pensioners by withdrawing their money from SASSA Cards.

According to the police, these suspects pretended to be officials from the SA Social Security Agency (Sassa). They targeted pensioners during pension payouts at post offices and even went door-to-door in Zamani township, looking for potential victims.

One incident involved “an elderly woman who was tricked into giving them her Sassa card, thinking they were agency officials. They swapped her card without her noticing and withdrew all the money from it in Memel town.”

But the good news is that all three suspects are now been arrested by the Police.
